I didn’t want to wear a veil on my wedding. We wanted a “modern” wedding, and I considered a veil an outdated element that belonged to “traditional” weddings. Now, almost to the day 7 years later, I am pretty sure I would change my mind. Here is why:
1. A veil adds style to the overall bridal look
Contrary to what I believed back then, veils can be a stylish element of your overall look and can add dramatic impact to your walk down the aisle.
2. A veil can be a “modern” accessory, too
There are so many different options available that adapt to your personal bridal style, it doesn’t always have to be a traditional mantilla or cathedral length veil. Take this dotted elbow-length model from BelleJulie’s new collection. The dots add a little whimsy and a certain vintage vibe…
3. A veil can enhance your bridal portraits
Veils are beautiful to photograph. They diffuse the light, and make for the most gorgeous and natural “prop”. Well-executed veil shots are among my favorites when I prepare a real wedding feature!
4. You will probably never get to wear a veil again.
In our culture, nothing says “bride” like a veil. Even if you opt for a colored dress or a more casual and less traditional gown, a veil will always differentiate you from the rest of your female guests. The bride is the only who gets to wear a veil and her wedding day will most probably be the only occasion in her life to do so.
