Thanksgiving is over and December is here… you know what that means, right? We can start talking about Christmas! I made this little tutorial as a guest post for Ein Hochzeitsblog last year and I thought I’d share it with you now, because I think it’s a nice idea not just for weddings, but also for your holiday table décor. So here go my gilded stone place card holders…
- pebbles or stones (I found mine in a garden center)
- gold leaf
- paint brush
- sealer (not in the picture)
With the brush, apply the liquid adhesive to the stones, and trace the desired patterns. I just wanted to cover parts of the stones with gold and make them all look differently.
Follow the instructions on your adhesive. Mine called for a 20 min. dry before applying the gold leaf, gently pushing it to the surface with a dry brush. Brush off any gold leaf excess.
Once the stones are completely dry, use a sealer to protect your design. I used a glossy spray sealer here, but would probably go for a matte finish next time.
I didn’t use a primer, but the stones are still in perfect shape (it’s a small surface, so I don’t think it was necessary). I still very much love how these gilded beauties turned out! What do you think?
