Today’s couple met exactly 7 years and 5 days ago, on Valentine’s Day, at a bar in London. Is there a more romantic way to start a relationship? After a surprise proposal in a very special London restaurant, Sophie and Jon decided to seek out warmer temperatures for their wedding and in the end tied the knot in a masia (“country house”) near Barcelona.
One of Spain’s best, Sara Lobla, was there to capture the entire magic… and I’ll let her do the “talking” from here on….
Why did you choose to get married in the Meditarranean? We both love Spain and thought it would be lovely to get married there. We thought the weather would be better (which it was). The backdrop to many of the venues are so much more rustic and scenic than here in the UK.
How did you find the venue and your wedding coordinator? Found our wedding Coordinator online and found the venue through her. The venue was hands down the most incredible place. The owner Jane was wonderful and so laid back about everything. It sleeps around 28 people so all the family and groomsmen could stay there for the whole weekend.
Did you incorporate anything handmade or DIY in your wedding? Yes we had masquarade ball for the dancing part of the wedding and I ordered papier mache masks and decorated each one individually, so they were all different so people could pick one. We bought some large reems of Satin and draped them from the ceiling of the dance area and I hired plants to decorate the event room in the masked ball theme.
What did you give as wedding favors to your guests? Instead of place names we created mini polaroid photos of each of the guests as a surprise so they had to find their seat. It was a great conversation starter and a bit of fun. (We found most of the photos on Facebook)
What advice would you give brides to be regarding organizing a destination wedding? You have to let go with many of the aspects of the wedding and leave things in the hands of other people. Also, in Spain you cannot get all the things as easily as you can here, but to be fair the venues usually are so special you don’t need a lot extra. A few small touches makes it even more magical.
