Before settling on a destination wedding, Shaun and Lauren “searched endless venues across the UK”, but nothing seemed to feel right to them. When they finally found their venue in the Algarve, Portugal, they knew it’d be perfect and embraced the idea whole-heartedly. Lauren added her own personal touches to the celebration, which Matt + Lena Photography captured so beautifully with bright and happy images… A summer day’s dream in peach!
Lauren’s flirty tea-length gown was a two-tone tulle design, featuring Venice lace applications and elegant beading detailing on the bodice. A silk dupioni sash cinched the waist of this adorable dress.
Says the bride: “We had always dreamed of an abroad wedding, but we weren’t sure we could ever make our dream come true. We searched for Meditarranean weddings from Spain to Malta on the internet and ultimately fell in love with the Sheraton Algarve. It had the edge and sparkle above the others for us. After several e-mails we flew over to meet Carina, and we instantly knew it was the venue for us. Also, Portugal was our first holiday destination together so it seemed like a perfect place to spend such an important day.”
The bride on DIY details: “I covered four bottles in twine, each with a letter to spell out LOVE. The ‘Mr & Mrs’ sign on the table was covered in peach glitter to match theme. I also personally sourced more details such as the wooden cake stand which I carved ‘Lauren & Shaun 29/05/14’ and the ring box.”
“We used trees to display photos of loved ones who sadly couldn’t make it to our wedding and of our parents on their wedding day.”
The place names were each made in the shape of luggage tags, individually personalized.
On having a destination wedding: “Do not hesitate, it is fantastic experience! It can be stressful at times as you are both so far away, but have confidence in your wedding venue and suppliers. I made sure we did plenty of research and visited the venue twice prior to our big day, which put our mind at ease with any last minute questions. We stayed at the venue for a week and arrived a few days before the big day, which helped us de-stress and make sure all of our families were enjoying themselves. For the first couple of days I was worried everyone was happy and had everything they needed, but remember this is your time, so you do what makes you both happy and try not to worry about others. I spend the night before with my bridesmaids and family and Shaun spent it with his family, this was really important to us and added to the excitement.”
