Today’s couple met on an airplane from Dublin to Edinburgh, and years later decided to tie the knot in Portugal, a country that is dear to them and that proved to be the perfect sunny and central location for their guests from all over the world. They chose Forte da Cruz, a historic fortress on the Atlantic Ocean in Estoril, just outside of Lisbon, for the occasion. I can vouch for the venue’s beauty myself, as I happened to have been invited to lunch there a few weeks ago. The setting is magical and the catering by Penha Longa was exquisite.
Thank you Hugo Cohelo for capturing and sending this beautiful wedding our way!
From the bride: “Myself and Jason met on a plane on the way to Edinburgh. The flight was full and he was the last passenger to get into the plane. There was only one seat available and thanks to Ryanair and their free seating policy, he sat beside me and we spoke for a little while. Out of plane already, as it was my first time in Edinburgh, I was taking my time to find where to go, what bus to take into the city, etc… I was not in a rush at all… it was then when I saw Jason turning around and asking me if I wanted to join him as he was also going to the city centre. Of course I said yes! He always says that at that moment he thought ‘If I don’t turn around now, I probably won’t see her ever again’ so he took the chance. Later on in the day we met up for drinks at the Balmoral Hotel and there was where everything started. Very fittingly, for the proposal Jason organised a surprise trip to Edinburgh as a birthday present. I didn’t know where we were going until we got to the airport. We stayed at the same hotel we had our first drink together, the Balmoral. He proposed in the hotel room with an amazing sunset overlooking the castle.”
About getting married in Portugal: “We’ve been many times to Portugal previously and we always enjoyed the culture, the food, the people etc. As we had friends coming for the wedding from all over the world (Brazil and Ireland of course, Australia, Phillipines and USA), we thought Portugal would be a great place to celebrate our weeding for its central location and also enjoy some days away in the sun with our friends and family.”
